Microsoft Announces Lumia 830 And Selfie-Centric Lumia 730, 735 Smartphones

Remember when the good folks at Microsoft told us there’d be more to come from the Lumia family of devices? Well, true to its word, the company has just announced three new smartphones, the ultra-slim Lumia 830, as well as the dual-SIM capable Lumia 730 and 735 models. As Microsoft continues to restructure and realign Nokia in an attempt to find some relevance in the mobile space, it will be hoping that the flagship Lumia 830 will offer enough appeal to compete with the latest offerings from Samsung and Apple.

Microsoft is billing the Lumia 830 as "the ultra-slim and innovation packed affordable flagship". Feels like they are trying to cover all bases with that one.

Dell’s New 27-inch 5K Monitor

Although Apple dazzled us with the Retina MacBook Pro back in 2012, it has dragged its heels in bringing the rest of its product line up to scratch. The idea of a Retina iMac is one that Apple fans can only still dream about, and with the very expensive Thunderbolt display still not up to par in the resolution stakes, those looking for a super-sharp experience have been forced to look elsewhere. Dell has long since been churning out 4K monitors for ultra high-def performance, and in announcing a new 27-inch 5K display yesterday, left us wondering if Apple would ever follow suit.

As you’ll immediately notice, the 288 ppi ‘UltraSharp 27 Ultra HD’ monitor looks very similar to a Thunderbolt, but with its 5120 x 2880 resolution, it’s actually streets ahead. Such a mammoth resolution is probably achieved thanks to the use of Multi-Stream Transport, or MST, essentially allowing two 2560 x 2880 panels to be stitched together as one.

Google Smart Contact Lens To Soon Become A Reality As Licensing Deal Gets Signed

Google is inarguably the most innovative company in the modern mobile industry, with several exciting products already in the pipeline. The head-mounted Glass device is perhaps the most eagerly-anticipated of them all, but as far as allowing us to engage with digital products using just our eyes, it’s not the only project that the search giant is plotting. The company is also working on some smart contact lenses offering significant health benefits those suffering with diabetes, and today, this enterprise got a significant boost with the Big G having struck a licensing deal with Novartis subsidiary Alcon.

For the benefit of those unfamiliar with Novartis, the pharmaceutical giant is one of the most well-known in the industry, and Alcon serves as its eye care division. Striking such a deal with Alcon is a massive coup for Google and its smart lenses, which measure glucose levels of tears and push this data to a user’s smartphone, and with the ability to alert a diabetic when these levels are too high, it’s a health-centered product that could prove critical in the day-to-day lives of those living with the disease.

Download iTunes 11.4 For Mac OS X With Full Support For iOS 8

Apple’s mammoth launch today of the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch may be done with, but with so much having been announced in a short space of time, only now do we get the chance to take a step back and digest the new features. Amid the fallout from today’s proceedings at the Flint Center, Apple has rolled out iTunes 11.4 for those on OS X Mavericks, which, as you might imagine, includes support for the all-new iOS 8.

Apple Boosts iCloud Security By Sending Sign-In Email Notifications To Users

Last week, numerous celebrities found themselves victims of a widespread hack, and although Apple stepped out with a statement to swiftly deny any wrongdoing, CEO Tim Cook did outline the company’s intention to strengthen up security. As a number of users have already discovered, though, some of these improvements are already in place, with email notifications going out to users when a password change is or device restore is attempted, as well as when a login from a new device occurs.

The Apple Watch features a slick, and rather traditional design, and since it’s the first ever smartwatch coming out of Cupertino, we’re dead sure that critiques will go at it with their axes and spears.

In the latest, it has unleashed a quirky new keyboard capable of docking a smartphone and tablet at the same time, and with a very agreeable price tag to boot, it’s the perfect all-in-one solution for traditional typists.

How To Display Owner Info On Your Android Device’s Lock Screen In Case It Gets Lost

Google is constantly updating its mobile software, and while most of the alterations and new features are clearly outlined in the change log, other neat little quirks slip through the net. One particular recent addition to the fold arrives in the form of Display Owner Info which, as the name implies, allows you to display your name and contact details on the lock screen. This is particularly useful if you happen to misplace your device, and given that it only takes ten seconds to set up, is the kind of feature that everybody should be activating.

Alienware Alpha Console Brings PC Games To The TV

Alienware, the American computer hardware outfit owned by Dell Inc., has announced that its first Steam Machine will be available for the public to get its hands on in November. The Alienware Alpha looks likely to be the first commercially available Steam Machine when it launches, but rather than being built on top of Valve’s SteamOS, the Alpha hardware will be reliant on Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 operating system. The curiosities doesn’t stop there either as Alienware looks to penetrate the PC gaming market with a Steam Machine that is likely to differ vastly from the initial crop that hit the market.

Specs Comparison: iPhone 6 Vs iPhone 6 Plus Vs iPhone 5s Vs iPhone 5c [Chart]

Apple has just announced two new iPhones in the form of the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6, but while many had reported that the iPhone 5c would be instantly removed from the line-up, the Cupertino company has opted to keep last year’s releases retailing for the time being. As we noted in our earlier coverage, both 5s and 5c have been in receipt of handsome price drops, and with four smartphone options now on the table from Apple, we take a look at how each stands up against the other.
